TAIZÉ PRAYER SERVICE – FEBRUARY 1, 2012
The service begins with a gathering in silence or with quiet music. Please bring
conversations to an end before entering the worship space. You may sit on the carpet
or floor, or in a chair, wherever you find the space and are comfortable. You are
welcome to stay in a pew, although it might be more difficult to hear. We begin by
singing a chant together. Chanting in Taizé style is built by the community. It is our
prayer together. Harmonies are welcome. Choose the language you wish to use. We
end each chant when together we feel the time is right. Chants marked CP are in the
blue hymnbook Common Praise.

there is silence indicating the psalm is concluded)

(from Psalm 42)
Like a deer that yearns for a cooling stream
So my soul is athirst for you, my God.
My soul is thirsting for God, for the living God;
When shall I come and behold the face of God?
Tears are my only food by night and by day;
Always I hear them say:
Where is your God?
Once I went with the throng
To the House of our God,
With shouts of rejoicing and praise
On the lips of the crowd.
What weighs you down, my soul?
Why faint in my breast?
Hope in God: I will praise him still,
My Saviour and my God
.
Please read this Scripture passage aloud into the silence at the conclusion
of the psalm.
(Jeremiah 29:11-14)
I know the plans I have in mind for you – it is God who speaks –
plans for peace, not disaster, reserving a future full of hope for
you. Then when you will call to me, and come to plead with me, I
will listen to you. When you seek me you shall find me, when you
seek me with all your heart; I will let you find me (- it is God who
speaks). I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the
nations and all the places where I have dispersed you (-it is God
who speaks). I will bring you back to the place from which I exiled
you.
